FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
How can one help avoid tick borne illnesses such as Lyme disease?
- Stay in the middle of wooded trails.
- Consider using a tick repellant containing DEET on your skin, and Premethrin based products on your clothes.
- Wear white socks, and tuck them into your pants.
- Do frequent tick checks, and a full body exam when you return home. Remember deer ticks are tiny, about the size of a pinhead.
- If you find an attached tick, DO NOT put any substances on it. Use fine point tweezers, grasp it by the mouthparts, next to the skin, and gently pull it out. Put the tick in a ziplock bag if you want to have it tested. Wash the bite site, the tweezers, and your hands.
